Why Ink Tart?
The idea for Ink Tart came in the dead of night. It was 2007. I was delirious and hunchbacked in a small dark room, lit by a computer screen, while I loaded my comics onto an enormous server. You’ve been there, right? You know the profound sense of accomplishment in this first small act. Putting it OUT THERE.
But those comics would never be seen.
The comics server hosted thousands of single shot comics, dailies, series, and sagas. A person’s work vanished into the stew like salt. Mmm, salty stew! Your tongue goes numb after three bites. And the comics world can feel like you’re eating a LOT of salty, grisly stew. With Fritos crumbled on top.
And while I love a salt lick as much as the next rabbit, I thought,
Gee. It would be totally delish if there was a space online for lady cartoonists.
Ink Tart is the dessert we’re bringing to the potluck, to balance out the stew. It is a space for dames who make comics. Because ladies and comics have something in common. We are still under the radar.
Ink Tart,or Ink’t Art, is about capitalizing on our strengths as artists and writers, and showcasing our work. This is a forum. This is a place to submit your latest work or work in progress. This is a place to see what other talented chicks are up to. To ask questions. To answer them. To talk about what’s new, what’s difficult, what’s blowing your mind.
The first incarnation of Ink Tart launched in 2008, in an “art magazine” format. Now it’s a wordpress blog.
